His high school team, the Hopewell Vikings, may have gotten knocked out of the playoffs, but running back Rushel Shell went down fighting and setting records along the way. Needing 240 yards to set a new Pennsylvania state record for career rushing yards, Rushel Shell finished with 292 on 33 carries. Besides the new state record, Shell also set a new national record for 100 yard rushing games in a career with his 39th, breaking Billy Sims old record. Ironically, Shells superb high school career as a running back parallels the career of former running back Tony Dorsett’s as both players went to Pitt and neither was on a team that won a high school championship.
