A tragic, senseless shooting in Durham, North Carolina has left one Gateway high school football player dead and another injured with a non-threatening leg wound. The Gateway football players, from Monroeville, Pennsylvania just outside Pittsburgh, were part of a group of football players from Gateway on a trip to visit colleges in North Carolina on the way to a football camp in Florida.
Senior linebacker Darrell Turner was pronounced dead at Duke University Hospital while junior quarterback Thomas Woodson was wounded in the leg. Police arrested the suspect, Gabriel James Gamez, and have charged him with murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury.
