Patrick Myers didn’t get the title he was looking for at the ASICS/Vaughan Junior National Championships, but he certainly drew attention to himself.Myers lost to Oklahoma’s Ladd Rupp 1-0, 6-0 in the bronze-medal match of the freestyle national championships on Saturday in Fargo, N.D., but he earned All-American honors for the second time in a week. Myers, who will be a senior at Penn Cambria, finished second in the Greco-Roman style earlier in the week.

The South squad’s offense certainly won’t be grounded during Saturday’s Ken Lantzy Finest 40 all-star football game at Trojan Stadium. While South head coach Ken Salem’s squad has the line and backs to establish the running game, this group also has the tools to take to the air.“We’ve been really pleased with Cory Kaltenbaugh and Matt Duray’s progress learning our pro-style package,” Bishop McCort’s Salem said of his two quarterbacks after a Thursday morning practice session at Richland. “We expect to throw the ball more than we run it.”
Central Cambria coach Ken Bussard believes his North squad’s offense has the tools to break the South’s three-year reign in the Ken Lantzy Finest 40 all-star football game on Saturday at Johnstown’s Trojan Stadium.

After dropping the first game at Windber on Tuesday night, being the state’s top-ranked team in Class A wasn’t going to help North Star. What did make a difference for the Cougars was the experience that enabled them to attain such a lofty ranking.Having played in the state championship match a year ago, and the experience that came along with it, helped North Star rally for a 3-1 victory over Windber in the season opener for both squads.

Prior to the kickoff of Friday’s home opener at Point Stadium, Bishop McCort coach Ken Salem and his players paid their respects to two members of the Crushers family who died earlier this year.Salem knew the emotional tribute to longtime Crushers assistant Dave Seidel and kicking coach Dave Domonkos would be touching and possibly affect his players in a game against Penn Cambria. After all, Crushers stars Josh Seidel and Dane Domonkos are courageously dealing with the loss of their fathers. The rest of the Crushers remembered two friends.“It’s a tough night to come out and have that moment of silence and have all of those things that the kids and the staff have to get over,”?Salem said after McCort defeated Penn Cambria 35-6. “I think we have the potential to be a good football team.
