The Northern Utah Avalanche, a women's football team based in Kaysville, recently held the clinic to find interested women and to begin what they hope will become a Utah women's football league.

SOUTH WEBER -- This is the inaugural season for Wasatch Front Football League football in the city. Parents got together about a year ago to raise money to begin a regular football program in the city because young football players were going to neighboring cities to play. According to city recreation director Joe Cravens, there are 125 youngsters in seven divisions playing football this fall.

Local teens got the opportunity to learn the game of pool from a billiards champion. This summer, high school students participating in the Upward Bound program were treated to pool lessons from former billiards champion, Tom Buchanan. "Tom is really good.

The most recent in a long list of preseason honors for the Weber State University Football Team is being ranked second in the Big Sky Conference preseason poll. This adds to the already impressive acknowledgments they have received, which include being ranked seventh in the Division I Football College Subdivision preseason poll.

Last Saturday Weber State University hosted the Fan Fest, an event intended to get fans excited for the upcoming season of the fall sports programs by having several attractions for the spectators. Head football coach Ron McBride kicked off the Fan Fest with a press conference where he gave a preview of the season and allowed fans to ask questions.

Two Weber State University Football Team members, Josh Morris and Trevyn Smith, are on the watch list for the 2009 Buck Buchanan Award, which is presented to the top defensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
Before the beginning of the season, 20 candidates will be announced in alphabetical order with the watch list being revised in October and then again in November, before the final ballot is announced.

Coming off a Big Sky championship, many fans are wondering what they can expect from the Wildcats this year. According to coaches and players, fans can expect a lot. There have been quite a few changes on the team, in both coaching staff and players that have graduated, but the coaches are confident in the new blood they have recruited from around the nation, as well as the changes in the coaching staff.

After going 21-10 last season, winning the Big Sky regular season title and only losing two seniors, Weber State University Head Coach Randy Rahe has signed six new players this year. Rahe signed three players from junior colleges, three players straight from high school and added another player as a walk-on.

After eight long months of waiting, football season is finally here. Not only is the drama with whether or not Brett Favre will retire finally over (although don't count out the possibility of him retiring and unretiring next year), but the Wildcats are about to kick off a new season.

For the past four years Jerry Graybeal has been the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Weber State University. Now he will step down as Athletics director to fulfill a different role. Jerry Bovee will be the interim Athletics director.
Before assuming the athletics director position, Graybeal was the head coach of the football team from 1998-2004.

The Weber State University Football Team, the Big Sky co-conference champions, will open the season on the road against two powerhouse teams in University of Wyoming and the University of Colorado. WSU has been picked to finish second in the Big Sky Conference in this year's preseason poll.

The Weber State University Football Team took on the University of Wyoming Cowboys, Saturday, Sept. 5 for their season opener. The Wildcats, who were down most of the game, managed to come up big in the fourth quarter, and ended the game on a 15-3 run. Their resurgence, however, was not enough, as they fell short, losing with a score of 22-29.

The Weber State University Football Team traveled to the University of Wyoming last Saturday, Sept. 5, but they didn't go alone. Approximately 300 Wildcat fans followed the team to Laramie, Wyoming, where, in spite of a 28-22 loss to the UW Cowboys, the Wildcat fans cheered on the team throughout the game.

Starting cornerback Josh Morris began playing football his senior year in high school and has risen to be a leader on the Weber State University Football Team.

When Associated Food's Chief Operating Officer, Neal Berube, heard about Weber State University adjunct teachers donating their salaries to scholarship funds, he said he wanted to become involved. Berube contacted Brad Kapple, an accounting instructor who donated his salary to help Ogden High School students attend college.
