    Tony Bell was named varsity girls basketball coach at Mount Hebron on Monday, replacing Scott Robinson , who resigned as coach last spring. Bell teaches special education at Mount Hebron. In recent years, he has been a track coach there and has led his teams to three Howard County titles. He was the junior varsity girls basketball coach at Howard for three years and coached the varsity in 2004-05.

Blackwell, a running back who transferred last winter from Archbishop Spalding, carried the ball 28 times for 174 yards and one touchdown and caught five passes for 83 yards and three touchdowns. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound junior, who hopes to play Division I Football Bowl Subdivision college football, has a 3.8 grade-point average and is considering a pre-med major.

Frank disrupted both teams' offenses with tenacity, smarts and poise. Frank is set to play at Ohio University next year.

Mount St. Joseph led 2-0 after 15 minutes before the Greyhounds' Joe Cahalan answered. "St. Joe really took the game to us in the first half," Gilman coach Jon Feal said. "We built off the last five minutes of the first half and carried that momentum into the second." Gilman's Cotter Brown and Diego McQuestion scored the tying and go-ahead goals as the Greyhounds took a 3-2 lead with 18 minutes left. ...     Severna Park coach Lil Shelton asked her No. 2 Falcons whether they liked the feeling they had after losing to unranked rival Severn on Monday. The answer was clear Wednesday night as the Falcons scrambled to a 3-2 overtime victory over No. 6 South River.
